ABSTRACT

T his was a frenzied time in America-perhaps best epitomized byone man and one trend. The man was Charles A. Lindbergh, whoseMay 1927 solo flight from New York to Paris made him the greatest hero of his time. This country and others pressed parades and awards on him for months, and his subsequent flying exploits and personal life were always front-page news, as were more tragic events (see pp. 136 and 197).
