ABSTRACT
Wvv e began our description of the learning of the Presto in chapter 6 by identifying six stages of the process. We are now ready to fill out that earlier description by adding what we have learned since from both the insider's and the outsider's perspectives. In chapter 6, we saw from an outsider's perspective how the length of runs and the proportion of practice devoted to runs increased from stage to stage, while the length of work segments and the effortfulness of practice remained the same. In chapter 7, we looked at things through Gabriela's eyes as she practiced and saw that she was initially more concerned with basic issues, but that as these were resolved her focus shifted to interpretation.
