ABSTRACT
It all started with a fax to Katmandu. Roger and I, on sabbatical in the autumn of 1992, had trekked high into
the Himalayas in Nepal. We left Katmandu in early October, flying to Lukla (9,000 feet) and then walking to the Chomolungma (Mt. Everest) base camp (18,000 feet).
