ABSTRACT

Although there might be a possibility for electronic town hall meetings, the ruling of the majority might very well end up with the ruling of the mob as one reviewer of this book pointed out. People who are on the Net and can afford time and other resources

(e.g., money to log onto the Internet with a Web browser) required for participating in electronic town hall meetings may have more influence than others. Accordingly, a system of direct democracy whereby people participate in the political decision-making process through national referendums might still be the better alternative to having electronic town hall meetings. Nevertheless, electronic town hall meetings do give some groups and individuals a chance to voice their opinion in the hope of making a difference in how their elected representatives may proceed when drafting or passing new legislation or even amending existing laws.
