For the Love of Reading: Inquiries in Reading Aloud and Creating Literature Discussion Groups in Fourth Grade

In this chapter, Sue covers two interrelated inquiries, one on read-alouds and one on literature discussion groups (what many also call response groups or literature circles). The reading-aloud inquiry was a continuation of a previous year’s focus-the first year that she used only literature to teach reading. She shares two discussions around two books-a familiar one that she had used before, and one that was quite new to her.
