ABSTRACT

The need for a consideration of contemporary issues in the use of tests in counseling is based on the fact that although tests have tremendous potential utility, they can also be misused. The misuse of tests may stem from characteristics of the test and/or the test user, and it is ultimately the responsibility of the test user to ensure that the test is of high quality and appropriate for use in the population intended. Because of the possibility of misuse of tests and test scores, psychologists and test specialists formulated ethical and professional standards designed to ensure that tests are used appropriately, effectively, and fairly.
