ABSTRACT

The recent surge in interest in the empirical study of development among adolescents of color is welcome and long overdue. It is reflected in an increase in research devoted to development and behavior in specific, and historically understudied, ethnic groups, as well as in research conducted on multiethnic samples. This interest in normative development in non-White populations will likely expand even further over the next decade, as projected demographic trends portend an increase in the absolute and relative size of the nonWhite adolescent population in the United States and as public and private funding agencies encourage further systematic research on adolescents of color.
