ABSTRACT

The MMPI-2 has 10 standard clinical scales that are universally scored when the test is administered. These scales, numbered 1 through 9 plus 0, were originally named after the diagnostic criterion groups (hypochondriasis, depression, etc.) but currently are indicated by their numbers. The original diagnostic labels that named the scales are misleading, as the behaviors expected to be associated with the diagnostic labels on specific scales are not always observed. Therefore, the naming of the scales by numbers is less misleading in terms of what the scales are measuring. Table A.2 contains the item composition of each clinical scale with the keyed responses. Tables B.3 and B.4 present the T-score conversions for the clinical scales.
