ABSTRACT

Listen to couples during the falling-in-love stage. Their descriptions of each other are idyllic. They cannot spend enough time together hanging out, talking, exploring interests, and planning a life together. Most couples are not thinking during the wedding ceremony, “I hope that he is going to learn to listen sometime,” or “I hope he learns to be responsible,” or “I hope she stops calling her mother.” If they are thinking these thoughts as the organ plays “Here comes the bride,” they are certainly in trouble; usually at that moment most couples are thinking about how perfect their partner is.
