ABSTRACT

I completed the pilot study for this project back in 2002 when I qualitatively interviewed six couples with at least one person who was trans or intersexed. My intention was to find out how they operated successful relationships under such circumstances; and what were the stumbling blocks that endangered those relationships. The couples were very different but the common theme I concluded was that the success or failure of the relationships appeared largely due to the flexibility of the other partner’s adaptability to the person’s trans identity.
