ABSTRACT

The American Library Association Presidential Committee on Information Literacy has indicated that “No other change in American society has offered greater challenges than the emergence of the Information Age.”1 In order to support this assertion, there clearly must be a mechanism in place to support the creation and implementation of information literacy education. The report goes on to define information literacy as follows: “Information Literacy is a set of abilities requiring individuals to ‘recognize when information is needed and have the ability to locate, evaluate, and use effectively the needed information.”2 In order to achieve success in the teaching and learning or information literacy strategies, librarians must receive comprehensive training in the proper manner in which to provide this set of tools to students. The success of this training can be strengthened through a collaborative effort between librarians and educators.
