ABSTRACT

Prevention strategies are often successful in reducing physical illness. Can they also help alleviate mental illness? These two areas are intertwined. Effective health care cannot treat one area independently of the other. A focus on community studies, multiple risk factors, and cost efficiency can lead to effective prevention interventions. Empirically based models for preventive care strategies already exist. They demonstrate cost-effectiveness in delivering health care (APA, 2006; Chamberlin, 2005; Greer 2005; Stambor, 2006).
