ABSTRACT

One of the primary research questions examined dealt with the status and role of ICTs in Africa in an increasingly interdependent global economy. The exploration of this subject demonstrates that African nations continue to lag behind other nations of the world in terms of the development of communication facilities (Fortner, 1993). For example, the Information Telecommunication Union (ITU) estimated that Africa’s teledensity varied from 0.08 in Chad to .0.46 in Nigeria and other nations in sub-Saharan Africa. This is the case with the other three technologies (electricity, satellite, and computer) driving the global economy in the Information Age.
