In 1989 under the auspices of the Policy Studies Organization directed by Stuart Nagel of the University of Illinois, Warren J.Samuels published Fundamentals of the Economic Role of Government (Westport, CT: Greenwood Press). This was a collection of commissioned essays responding to the question-What are the most fundamental things you can say concerning the economic role of government?
