ABSTRACT

In this chapter we present the main programme findings. As will become clear in the following chapters, the EPSI programme generated and made use of a wealth of data. From the outset each school’s OFSTED inspection report was available as a start-of-programme review of the schools’ strengths and weaknesses. Also, all schools were asked to collect assessment data on pupils’ reading ages, to use the newly introduced Year 4 assessments and to apply a writing test, which some of the SDAs developed specifically for EPSI. Furthermore, the schools were required to administer the annual end of key stage assessments and these data were available to us and the schools to use to evaluate school progress and performance.
