ABSTRACT

In this chapter, and the next one, we look at how the EPSI programme contributed to building the LEA’s capacity to support schools’ improvement efforts. The chapter is organized into nine subsections, in which we examine the changing role of LEAs and set out some of the questions that arise from developing the LEA’s capacity to support school improvement. The notion of programme teams is explained, their support programme is described and their role with schools outlined. We review the benefits of multidisciplinary team work, and provide an analysis of the effectiveness of these teams and the implications of multi-disciplinary teams. Lastly we summarize the key points and highlight the main conclusions.
