ABSTRACT

Change seems to be one of the most constant factors in today’s society, even if the type of change that different societies have experienced this century varies considerably. For the members of a tribal community, change may have meant access to and/ or knowledge about electricity, modern transporation and mass media in the nearer or wider neighbourhood. An urban dweller in an industrialized country may have experienced change as a multitude of new choices, whether of consumer goods or with regard to transport and information systems, including electronic media and ‘virtual reality’.
