ABSTRACT
The National Curriculum as established by the Education Reform Act has three major components:
i) attainment targets which relate to the ‘knowledge, skills and understanding’ which pupils are to acquire;
ii) programmes of study which relate to ‘the matters, skills and processes’ to be taught;
iii) assessment arrangements.
