Target-setting in School Personnel Who are the personnel?; why staff matter; the governing body’s responsibilities; examples of targets for the school personnel

The governing body is likely to be the employer, or effectively the employer, of all staff on the school site. For the purposes of this chapter, ‘personnel’ will refer to paid and volunteer staff of the school. Pupils — included in the brief of some personnel committees — are actually the focus of every part of the governing body’s work, and that is reflected in the way this book is structured. Relationships with parents and other members of the community are also considered throughout, and particularly in chapter 8.
