ABSTRACT

Children who have taken part regularly in philosophical enquiry have argued that it is good for teachers too, quite simply because it provides the opportunity for teachers to listen to children’s opinions and for children to raise the issues and questions that concern and interest them. As these two nine-year-old girls explain:

I think that teachers should teach the pupils [philosophy] because, um, it doesn’t just help the children, it helps them as well because they can understand how they feel and why they feel like that.
