ABSTRACT
This chapter documents my experiences as a visually disabled lecturer over a period of 20 years.’ These experiences are grounded within a broader discussion of the employment situation of disabled people, particularly visually disabled people in Britain today, exploring factors which prevent our full inclusion in paid employment. This discussion will highlight the social model of disability, promoted by disabled people themselves, where disability is viewed as a civil rights issue rather than a medical issue.
