ABSTRACT
Culture has a wide variety of meanings. As the root of horticulture and agriculture, it refers to processes of growth and development. Used like this, the term is particularly linked to specialized laboratory conditions which promote and accelerate growth. In this context, the verb ‘to culture’ implies a nurturing activity on the part of the cultivator. Teachers readily accept the idea of their work being linked with culture, especially in promoting growth and the climate for development.
