ABSTRACT
The first of these concerns is ontological. In confronting the sameness of the world, it is possible to suggest that it comprises persistent types of relations between human beings. These relations may be characterised in a number of ways:
• They persist across time. Relations between teachers and students, situated in classrooms and schools, though subject to subtle forms of change, have in the main remained the same in different periods of time.
