ABSTRACT
Prescription opioids are potent and effective pain relievers when provided to individuals with acute and chronic pain conditions (Savage, 2003). If taken as prescribed, opioids can often manage pain effectively and safely. However, prescription opioids have significant abuse and addictive potential, and thus serious health liabilities, when used for nonmedical reasons.
