ABSTRACT
This postscript is an initial proposal on defining and characterizing the technical terms and principles that figure into the system that converts letters of written words into the sounds of their oral equivalents. Further empirical investigations using this, or alternative proposals, constitute the scientific study of letter-sound relationships.
