ABSTRACT

Up to this point, this volume has dealt mostly with text tasks. This is the way statistical tasks are usually presented in experiments, and it is the way we are often confronted with statistical information in print media. However, the problem of text understanding is far beyond the scope of this book, and in an attempt to build a precise model of how the mind arrives at probability judgments, it seems appropriate to begin at a more elementary level.
