ABSTRACT

Research into the management of technology and innovation has high... lighted the many pitfalls and problems that are usually encountered during the innovation journey. At different levels of attention and analysis, early work in the field (e.g., Allen, 1966, 1977; Allen & Frischmuth, 1969; Allen &Marquis, 1963; Myers & Marquis, 1965; Pelz &Andrews, 1967) to name just a few, has pointed to the importance of problem...framing and prob... lem...solving activities to accomplish the innovation task at hand. In es... sence, this rich and diverse stream of research has pointed to the central role of handling, and from a performance point of view, reducing uncer... tainty during the various phases ofthe innovation process. Information and

information exchange were considered and shown to be critical elements in this endeavor.1
