ABSTRACT
In 1948 John Newsom,1 then a school inspector, in his book The Education of Girls expounded the view that girls’ education should reflect the fact that:
Women possess certain particular needs based on their particular psychology, physiology and their social and economic position … . The fundamental common experience is the fact that the vast majority of them will become the makers of homes, and that to do this successfully requires the proper development of many talents.2
