Forty Years of Head and Cervical Spine Fatalities in American Football: 1945–1984

The American Football Coaches Association began collecting football fatality data in 1931 and has continued for every year since with the exception of 1942. Football has benefitted from these surveys because the research results have been the basis for football rule changes and improvement in equipment.
