ABSTRACT

A modern approach to sport shoe production cannot do without scientific research. Significant examples are supplied by Cavanagh (1980). The aim of this study is to illustrate the scientific approach adopted in the design and production of a football boot and to describe some original solutions introduced to improve the boot's technical characteristics. In football, more than in other sports, the footwear plays a fundamental role in influencing the athlete's performance. It must be stable, have a good fit and properly contain the rearfoot. It must moreover allow the player to run freely and help him play correctly by not interfering with his movement and running style, since the very nature of this sport involves heavy stress on the player's legs and feet.
