ABSTRACT

To understand the dynamic and dialogical relationship among imagination, the arts, and possibility —the relationship that opens unexpected vistas and meanings in Maxine Greene’s life, in others’ lives, and in my own-is to look from both sides of the looking glass. It is to look at the releasing of imagination in context of the viewer’s encounter with a work of art and in context of the artist’s creation of one. It is to understand what a work of art does to, for, or with persons such as Maxine Greene and also, what she, in particular, does with works of art.
