ABSTRACT

This paper assesses the implications of the information revolution and of humankind’s perception of this phenomenon for early years education. I examine how early childhood education can counter the global trend towards the exploitation of children. I explore how a stable platform for child development can be achieved after the breakdown of the patriarchal family and I analyse the benefits and dangers of information technology during the first years of a child’s life. Finally, I set early childhood education in the context of lifelong learning by showing how the first years of education can prepare a child for independent learning throughout the rest of their lifetime.
