ABSTRACT

Teaching is one of those jobs which looks deceptively easy. Parents send their children to school for the first time and, within weeks, they are delighted-but not surprised-to find their offspring counting, reading and writing. Indeed if these expectations are not fulfilled fairly early on then questions are asked and explanations demanded. Added to which many parents keep a watchful eye over their child’s education for his or her entire school career wanting to know precisely what progress is being made and why there are differences between the standards and content of their own schooling and that of their child.
