ABSTRACT

The goal for this chapter will be to consider how particular research strategies relate to specific methods of investigation. The previous chapters have offered an introduction to some of the key theories, models and findings in the field of early childhood education. The intention of this chapter is to provide a brief account of systematic enquiry in this area in order for the reader without a social sciences background to:

• gain a deeper understanding of the skills of designing, observing, analysing and reporting

• develop a more critical approach to the substantive content of early childhood research to be outlined in the remainder of this text.
