Major goals of this book include helping pre-service and beginning teachers to recognize their important role in education, showing them how to better understand their journey of becoming a teacher, and-as a result-finding a voice that will carry them confidently into a challenging and rewarding career. The following words, written by a pre-service teacher during education courses, capture the essence and the purpose of this book:
Who among us really knows what it means to teach? I’ll tell you who knows-those who have taught long enough to realize that they really don’t know anything compared to how much there is to learn about teaching. You can never stop learning.
