ABSTRACT

This chapter looks at the role you will play in coordinating fieldwork activities throughout the school. It discusses key legal issues related to your work. It also gives a number of references to other sources which provide detailed information on various topics, for instance developing enquiry approaches through fieldwork. The timetable is very crowded and money scarce in most primary schools. How can you justify fieldwork? Spend a few minutes jotting down the reasons you would give if someone challenged you about why fieldwork should be a part of the curriculum. As you do this consider:

■ your school context-children and their experiences resources stated philosophy, aims and objectives;

■ what you personally believe to be important; ■ what you know about official statements.
