ABSTRACT

The science coordinator should be a close ally as so many features of their work coincide with yours. Just as with computers, many teachers were until recently unfamiliar with many scientific concepts. Experimentation which is at the heart of children’s work in science, needs an element of trust on the part of the teacher that whatever the result something will be learned and like ICT, pupils will need to be left on their own for a while to make their own mistakes. The science coordinator also might have been part of the dramatic changes in primary science during the 1980s and 90s when it changed from one on the periphery to a core subject. They may have experience as a change agent and so be most useful as a partner.
