ABSTRACT

The importance of subject knowledge in design and technology for primary teachers has now been recognised (Ofsted, 1993, 1995, 1996). As design and technology is such a broad subject, gaining sufficient subject knowledge can be a daunting task: as a coordinator you will need to consider your own needs as well as those of your colleagues. Courses for primary teachers may be limited in availability and sometimes prohibitive because of cost, therefore, primary teachers and coordinators might usefully start from their personal knowledge base and build upon that.
