ABSTRACT

The importance of this first step may not be obvious at this stage. We all have a view of what design and technology education is and what we want for young children. It is important that if you are going to raise children’s attainment in design and technology, write policy in this area, lead colleagues and deal with visitors to the school, that you have thought through what you mean by design and technology. It is particularly important that you are quite clear in your own mind about the role of design and technology coordinator in your school. How you see yourself and how colleagues and others see you is very important and will influence the extent of the effect you can have on the design and technology in the curriculum.
