ABSTRACT

There are many opportunities for science activity in the primary classroom. The teacher’s task is to plan for and help the children to use such opportunities to good effect. You, as the coordinator, will need to monitor and evaluate what opportunities are being provided in classrooms to ensure that effective teaching and learning in science is taking place. Only by doing so can you plan for improvement. Monitoring and evaluating the teaching and learning throughout your school will allow you to identify the strengths and weaknesses within the teaching and learning process. This evidence will then feed into your future action plans and ensure efficient management and use of resources. This should lead to an overall improvement in standards.
