ABSTRACT

As part of the government’s review of the continuing professional development of teachers, a new national professional qualification for subject leaders (NPQSL) in primary schools is being introduced (TTA, 1996). The consultation document makes clear the standards of skill, knowledge and understanding that are expected of anyone fulfilling this role. These criteria will identify what will be expected of you as the science coordinator in your school and should also support you in identifying your own training needs and development targets.
