ABSTRACT

The newly appointed coordinator needs to quickly acquire a whole school viewpoint and begin to take responsibility for mathematics beyond their own classroom. Getting a clear picture of what’s ‘going on’ is a skilful process and includes looking at the human resources that are potentially available. Success is likely to be best achieved when everyone in the school sees the need for coordinators to have a whole school viewpoint and are confident in talking about their strengths and their anxieties where teaching maths is concerned. Most of us do not teach maths equally effectively across the whole subject and it’s refreshing to know that this is normal and we’re not alone. Thought about positively-we can consider ourselves as always ripe for development.
