ABSTRACT

Developing children’s physical control and coordination will be an important component of physical and dance education.

Dance-movement for music learning mainly calls for control and coordination of gross motor skills. Physical skills for making music with instruments and the voice call for control and coordination of fine motor skills. Of course the two are interconnected. Fine motor skills for handling instruments and for breathing and managing the voice in singing are supported by increased control of gross motor skills. A movement foundation of large and fine movements feeds into and supports all musical activity.
