ABSTRACT

The child: • can find a singing voice and join in with singing the melody of

known songs; • can improvise songs or spontaneous singing conversations with

a partner; • can begin to control the voice in simple voice techniques (some

control of breathing, producing a range of different voice sounds, standing well);

• can sing a number of one-liner and other short songs independently;

• responds to instrumental timbre and dynamics and uses these musically;

• can make and perform music using patternings with a variety of instruments;

• can listen with awareness and sort and control sounds made by tuned and untuned instruments;

• responds to music with movement and can match movements to the overall mood, dynamic and tempo of the piece;

• can improvise movements for music work with freedom and imagination, using some variety of movement vocabulary;

• has some skills for music movement work; can stop and start with control, and move in space with awareness for others;

• can give attention to and follow the music; • can respond to music with interest and in a variety of ways; • can pick out some aspects of the music and talk about them; • can make and understand connections between simple

notations and musical sounds.
