ABSTRACT

These questions are pertinent in relation both to the present educational situation and to future trends within western societies. With changes within the Norwegian educational system as my point of departure I present an action research project aimed at increasing gender equality in grades 1-3 (7-9 years) in primary school where the values of care, concern and connection have played an important part (Martin, 1985). In the final section I discuss the tendency to individualism in our school system, arguing that we need both to acknowledge it and oppose it.
