ABSTRACT
It is now clear to Jeff that the students have established expectations of schooling and have developed ways to respond to these expectations. Through his approach to teaching, Jeff is at times asking them to depart from their ‘routine’ and the students exhibit some concern. They quite rightly question (in various ways) the value of the new demands.
