ABSTRACT
Some years ago I read a sentence that struck me for the acuteness of the observation that was made: ‘Ask a student to tell you about a discipline and he/she will answer telling you about his/her teacher.’ This assertion grasps the essence of the role of teachers in communicating the image of their subject with the relevant implications, both in more general cultural terms and in terms of motivation and learning.
