ABSTRACT

To determine the basic relations between these properties of terms, numerous terms have to be investigated. In addition, the number of students assessing these properties must not be too small. Therefore a seven-step scale rating procedure was chosen. Other investigations which have been conducted in a comparable context use different rating procedures, mainly multistep scales (Paivio, Yuille and Madigan, 1986; Baschek, Bredenkamp, Oehrle and Wippich, 1977; Wippich and Bredenkamp, 1977; Offe, Anneken and Kessler, 1981; Krampen, Jirasko, Martini and Rihs-Middel, 1990). They generally provide very high agreement on the results (Westermann and Hager, 1984; Borg, Müller and Staufenbiel, 1990). Moreover rating scales meet in a more general sense the interval scale necessary for a range of statistical operations (Westermann and Hager, 1983; Westermann 1984). The properties of the terms are considered as unipolar (Hager, Mecklenbrauker, Möller and Westermann, 1985; Günther and Groeben, 1978; Anderson, 1968; Schwarz et al. 1991).
