ABSTRACT

This book explores the status of children’s health in primary schools, using data from a large-scale survey and six case-studies. Our exploration focuses on intersections of health and education, two topics which are commonly considered separately. For whilst the home is usually regarded as the site of health care, the school stands as the site of education. Yet education also takes place at home, and health care at school. Children themselves challenge the division of lived life into private and public sectors; they take their bodies and emotions, as well as their minds, into school each day. For them the maintenance of health there is a key concern.
