ABSTRACT

As the chapter proceeds, some mathematical formulae are used to show how various calculations are made. For readers with a background in mathematics these will cause no difficulties. For those without that advantage we would simply say ‘Do not worry too much about them.’ The advent of powerful statistical programmes for computers means that they will do the calculations for you. The important thing is that you realize what the implications of these concepts are and understand the significance of the results which computers will supply in interpreting the results of your study. We begin by introducing the concept of normal distribution and the related normal curve.
